Kanda Matsuri

This weekend I went to one of the bigger May festivals in Tokyo called Kanda Matsuri! I learned that the festival has not taken place since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, so I was not surprised to see large crowds in and around the Kanda Myojin Shrine. There were several processions including portable shrines and samurai as well as plenty of yatai (festival food stalls). I also had amazake, a fermented rice drink, which is a traditional beverage to have at festivals and on new years.
